Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral signed a contract extension at the club before sealing a loan move to Scottish side Rangers, it has been revealed.
The 22-year-old started the season on loan at La Liga side Granada, but opted to cut the spell short after making just five league appearances. He has already made six league appearances for Rangers since joining the club in January.
FA records taken from the organisation's official website show a list of players who have signed contracts within a certain time span, and Toral's name appears on the list having been registered at the beginning of January.
Toral joined then-Rangers coach Mark Warburton during January, having worked with the 54-year-old during their time together at Brentford, but is now coached by Pedro Caixinha after Warburton left the club in controversial circumstances.
Speaking to The Times back in January, Toral said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was keen for him to join Rangers and gain more first-team experience.
“Playing well for Rangers can help me prove to Arsène Wenger that I am ready for the first team,” Toral said.
“I believe I can get my career back on track at Rangers because ultimately I want to go back to Arsenal and play for the first team there. I’ve had two good loan experiences and one bad one.
“I am confident I can cope with the physical side of Scottish football and it’s an exciting time for me again. The manager at Arsenal was very keen for me to join Rangers, so that was a big help too.”
